Here to help

Within our island community there is always someone willing to help.  I love that about this place.  So here I aim to share that with anyone coming to the islands to get married.  I have compiled my favourite venues and local suppliers along with some handy tips to get the best from your flowers. I hope it's helpful.

If planning your wedding on the Isles of Scilly seems a little daunting because of the distance (and water!) between you and your dream venue the following contacts could help put your mind at ease. With beautiful ceremony and reception venues in stunning locations and a whole host of local businesses ready to provide all the special details that will make your day one to remember you pretty much just need to bring your dress. Here are a few of my favourites I just have to share.

Ceremony venues

Religious ceremonies can be held in the islands' six church of England churches. Please contact the Chaplain of the Isles of Scilly for more information:

For civil wedding ceremonies there are a range of venues, varying in size, on St.Mary's, as well as Karma St.Martin's Hotel on St.Martin's. Please contact the island registrar team for further details:

Reception venues

A lot of the island hotels, restaurants and pubs will cater for wedding parties, providing a wide choice of venue style and atmosphere. So if there is a place on the islands that is special to you why not give them a call. However I can personally recommend the following places to take extra special care of your day.

JULIET'S GARDEN, ST.MARY'S

A few helpful tips to make sure you are getting the most from your flowers:

1.  Make your budget go further by choosing local flowers or, if you've got your heart set on particular, pricey blooms (peonies for example) consider if you can double up on usage for your arrangements.  All it takes is a few well briefed ushers or helpful family members and you can transfer cleverly thought out designs from your ceremony venue to your reception.  Table arrangements can make great thank you gifts too.

2.  Keep your bouquets looking their best by giving them a drink whilst you have your meal.  Ask your reception venue if they can provide glasses with a little water in the bottom for you and your bridesmaids to stand your flowers in whilst you eat and give them a new lease of life for any evening photographs. And don't forget the men's buttonholes too - jackets put over the backs of chairs during dinner invariably lead to very squashed flowers!

3.  Save yourself the hassle of having to bring bulky containers over to the islands by hiring them from me. With a wide choice of items from vintage style glass bottles and jam jars, rustic jugs and milk churns, country style wooden crates, pretty filagree detailed pots and glitzy metalics I might well have something to suit your needs.
